Amendments to the Tunisian legislation stipulate imprisonment for public justification of terrorism, allowing detaining the suspects for 15 days without court sanctions and access to attorney, as well as make it easier for investigators to tap suspects' phones.

Despite the criticism of rights groups, who pointed out that the concept “terrorism” under the new law is not precise enough, Tunisian parliament passed the law overwhelmingly after three days of debate, BBC Russian Service reports.

According to the parliament speaker Mohamed Ennaceur, the new law would "reassure" Tunisians.

On June 26, an armed gunman opened fire in the beach of Sousse, attacking tourists and killing 38 people.
