Prime Minister of Armenia Hovik Abrahamyan, within the framework of his working visit to Georgia, on Monday visited—and together with his Georgian colleague Irakli Garibashvili—the Dariali (Kazbegi) border checkpoint between Georgia and Russia.

The two PMs got familiarized with the activities of this border crossing.

Abrahamyan, in particular, asked about the kinds of challenges that are faced by the vehicles en route from Armenia to Russia via Georgia. The Premier also spoke with the Armenian citizens that are heading for Russia through this border checkpoint.

Following the tour, the Armenian and Georgian PMs summed up the results of the visit.

According to the agreement reached, the Dariali (Kazbegi) border checkpoint will now be open for another 3.5 hours—that is, for another 6.5 hours within the past one month—, and operate from 5:30am-to 12am.

The parties also discussed the avenues for minimizing the Armenian-truck traffic jams on, and facilitating Armenian exports via, the said Georgian border crossing.

In addition, the interlocutors reflected on the matter of the Friendship Bridge to be built at the border inspection post between Armenia and Georgia. They agreed to start the construction as soon as possible.

The PMs of the two countries also conferred on the sections of the Georgia-Russia motorway where there is a risk of landslides and rockslides. In this connection, the Georgian side informed the Armenian side that it plans to take measures to make these road sections safer.

The Armenian delegation, led by PM Hovik Abrahamyan, returned to Armenia on the same day.
