There is a unique woman combine harvester operator in Mets Mazrik village of Armenia’s Gegharkunik Province, and the Armenian News-NEWS.am reporter managed to speak with her.

Svetlana Gasparyan is 80 years old, and she became a combine operator after the death of her husband.

“He was working in the field, [and] I was learning beside him,” said Gasparyan. “After the death of my husband, I sat at the steering wheel of the combine.”

Despite her advanced age, Gasparyan has a remarkable memory, and she continues working as a combine operator.

“Mom knows every workpiece of her combine; she can take [it] apart and reassemble,” said the woman’s daughters. “The same goes also for other agricultural machinery.”

“Mom knows by heart every centimeter of the 1,500 hectares belonging to the village residents,” added Svetlana Gasparyan’s daughter, Irina. “When they don’t know where someone’s plot of land ends, they call Mom.”
