YEREVAN. - The council of “Stand up, Armenia” initiative, which stages a sit-in in Yerevan’s Republic Square, has issued a statement.

According to it, the Armenian police continue to hinder the sit-in against the electricity price hike in the centre of Yerevan’s Republic Square.

“As a result of the non-proportionate use of force during the unlawful actions of the police, initiative council member Davit Sansaryan received a back injury and was taken to “Erebouni” medical centre by Ambulance,” the statement reads.

“Stand up, Armenia” initiative council condemns the illegal actions of the police, as well as the inaction of the responsible authorities, which result in the violation of citizens’ constitutional right to peaceful assembly and cause damage to their health.

The initiative urges the police to remove the police cordon blocking the centre of the Republic Square and back the peaceful sit-in in the framework of law.
