YEREVAN. – The residents living near a street in Yerevan, the capital city of Armenia, are complaining that the Municipality has asphalted a formerly grass area of this street.

A resident, by the name of Samvel Sargsyan, told Armenian News-NEWS.am that the said area was asphalted on Wednesday.

The area is located close to the Republican Stadium named after Vazgen Sargsyan, where the opening ceremony of the 6th Pan-Armenian Games is slated to be held on Sunday.

The local residents believe that the area was asphalted to clean it up ahead of the aforesaid ceremony, and then to turn it into a paid parking space.

A man working in the neighborhood of the asphalted area, however, told Armenian News-NEWS.am that he and others working there like the asphalted area because, previously, there was only soil there, and different kinds of garbage were thrown in the area.

The Yerevan Municipality promised us to provide clarification solely after visiting the area and examining the matter.
