Similarweb is rapidly developing company that provides services in web analytics, data mining and business intelligence for international corporations. In an e-mail interview with Armenian News-NEWS.am head of media relations Ariel Rosenstein spoke about peculiarities of company’s work and web analytics services.

Three years ago Similarweb was a small startup that started  providing services on web analytics  At the same time there were Alexa, Google Analytics, and Liveinternet (for CIS countries), that were working in this market. 3 years later we witnessed a company that strengthened its positions in the world market. How could you achieve this to become a model of success for startup companies?

We know the internet is a global ecosystem so from the beginning we focused on building the largest and most globally comprehensive data set available. We found that existing tools weren’t showing the entire market, focusing only on internal analytics or only certain countries. By going global we were able to offer a better product. We also don’t limit our viewpoint to just desktop devices.

Let's go deeper into peculiarities of  Similarweb work.  What makes it different from other companies providing web analytics services? How is the Similarweb carrying out its calculations? How often is the data updated?

We pull data from 4 sources which part of what makes our approach unique. We have our own web crawler which maps out the entire web and gives us a compressive understanding of all existing websites. We then build our traffic estimations by blending data from our international panel, ISP data, and our community of websites that have connected their pixel based tracking directly to our platform.

The ISP data and our panel give us the traffic sources and deep analytical data, while the learning set drives our estimation algorithms and allows us to turn raw data into accurate traffic estimates.

All of our data is updated daily (available in our paid version).

In addition to a free option, you also offer website analysis that costs around 5,000 per month. It is clear that this option is for marketing companies, but what advantages will the consumer get in case he/she buys it? If possible, please mention 5 best examples of subscription.

Actually we have many packages, our lowest priced package starts at $199 a month. Everyone reading this is welcome to try our free demo at SimilarWeb.com to try our PRO platform. With our PRO platform you can dive in-depth into the data for any website or mobile to understand the marketing strategies and tactics.

Some of the highlights our platform include:

•         The ability to see top search engine keywords with their respective share of traffic

•         A view of all the referral sites linking to and sending traffic to a site.

•         A breakdown of traffic by geography and the ability to filter data for 60 different countries

•         The breakdown of traffic to the app page for mobile apps

•         Top keywords for App Store Optimization

Nowadays the collection of data is going to the gadgets, the focus is on mobile devices traffic. What changes do you expect in case of using IPV6? Is data collection technology ready for new IP in terms of providing analysis (when IPV6 will be used in all areas e.g cars, etc,)?

We already provide data on mobile web traffic and mobile apps so the move to mobile devices is one that we are ready for. We don’t expect the IPv6 migration to affect our data collection capabilities at all.

Do you have a target for the next year (if it is not a secret)? What new services would you like to introduce in this market?

Our main goal is to continue our phenomenal growth. We have many cool new features planned both for desktop and mobile so stayed tuned to SimilarWeb for future updates.
