YEREVAN. – There was a demand for a constitutional amendment in Armenia for twenty-five years.

Head of the opposition Armenian Revolutionary Federation (ARF) Dashnaktsutyun Party National Assembly (NA) Faction, Armen Rustamyan, noted the above-said at a press conference on Monday.

In his words, the new draft Constitution will enable to form a balanced power in Armenia.

“During these twenty-five years, the basis for our both economic and social problems was political,” said Rustamyan. “[But] today, we were able to design a draft [Constitution], change the system of governance so there can be no monopoly of power [in the country].”

The ARF MP added that the constitutional amendments will bring about a new Armenia.

The new draft Constitution has been forwarded to the NA. The respective parliamentary debates are expected to get underway during its first four-day fall session. And as per National Assembly President Galust Sahakyan, the constitutional referendum should be conducted in late September.
