YEREVAN. – Member of the ruling Republican Party of Armenia National Assembly (RPA NA) Faction, Karine Achemyan, gave a positive assessment to the talks between members of the European Commission for Democracy through Law (Venice Commission), and political representatives of the country.

The RPA MP told Armenian News-NEWS.am that she welcomes the fact that the Venice Commission met with representatives of a variety of Armenian political parties, and listened to their position on the new draft Constitution of Armenia.

Achemyan added, however, that during the talks, some opposition political forces made improper queries which were relating to the domestic political situation in Armenia. But she also noted that the Venice Commission members responded to the Armenian MPs’ and NGO representatives’ questions within the scope of their power.

Karine Achemyan stated that the Venice Commission’s overall view on the new draft Constitution was positive, and its members stressed that this draft is broadly in line with European standards, but with some reservations, which they had discussed at the meetings with Armenian representatives.

The Venice commission members held talks, on Tuesday in Armenia’s capital city of Yerevan, with the political forces of the country. The representatives of all parliamentary factions were in attendance to this event, during which the discussants exchanged views on the new draft Constitution of the country.
