STEPANAKERT. – PACE’s  pro-Azerbaijani stance is evident enough, Nagorno-Karabakh President (NKR) spokesman Davit Babayan told Armenian News – NEWS.am, commenting on the meeting of Azerbaijan’s FM Elmar Mamedyarov and PACE representative Milica Marković.

“Horrible things have recently been going on in Azerbaijan in terms of human rights. PACE is an institution, which is called to react; the passive regime of its reaction means that Azerbaijan is again resorting to its developed strategy of caviar diplomacy, using   the gastronomical preferences of the European officers,” Babayan said.

Commenting on the statement regarding the Sarsang Reservoir and “depriving the residents of Azerbijan’s border villages of potable water,” Babayan stressed the Armenian side cannot allow an unfriendly state to get the opportunity of encroaching on the water security of Armenia and Karabakh.

Babayan also said the rivers, which flow into Armenia’s Lake Sevan and provide 80% of the country’s water resources, spring from Karvachar.

“As to Sarsang, the official Stepanakert has repeatedly stated that it’s ready to regulate the issue of water resources, but measures on strengthening trust are needed first. The solution of the issue is possible for us only on the basis of equality,” Babayan said.
