The role of Russia as the most powerful state in the region from the economic and military viewpoints is also ensuring peace and stability in the region, RF President Dmitry Medvedev told a news conference in Yerevan, responding to a question concerning Russia’s actions in case of threat to Nagorno-Karabakh.

However, the commitments within the CSTO (Armenia, Belarus, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Russia, Tajikistan and Uzbekistan) should be remembered as well, the Russian leader said.

President Medvedev stressed he is not ashamed of Russia’s activities aimed at settling the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict. “Regional peace and stability is of importance to Russia,” he said. Moscow dopes not want recurrence of the 1990s events in Nagorno-Karabakh and 2008 events in South Ossetia. “We do not want such events in the Caucasus and Transcaucasus to recur,” President Medvedev said.
