Kazakhstan’s capital Astana has hosted the 25th jubilee session of the Coordinating Council of Prosecutors General of CIS Member States. The session was dedicated to the 20th anniversary of the institution.  

The forum was attended by the representatives of CIS prosecutor general’s offices, including prosecutors general of Kazakhstan, Armenia, Belarus, Kyrgyzstan, Russia, Tajikistan, deputy prosecutors of Azerbaijan and Moldova, as well as CIS executive committee president Sergey Lebedev and CIS executive committee secretary Leonid Yermolayev.

In his welcome speech, Yuri Chayka, President of the Coordinating Council of Prosecutors General of CIS Member States and Russia’s Prosecutor General, stressed the significance and relevance of the issues discussed in the context of new challenges and threats emerging in the region.

In his speech, Armenia’s Prosecutor General Gevorg Kostanyan said that the Coordinating Council of Prosecutors General of CIS Member States has proved during these 20 years that it is an irreplaceable and effective platform in terms of struggle against crime.

“Armenia’s Prosecutor General’s Office attaches importance to the international cooperation, implemented in the framework of the international agreements between the bilateral and multilateral agreements, as well as on the basis of the principles of reciprocity and good will,” he said.

According to Kostanyan, the economic crimes are in the focus of attention of all CIS member states' prosecutor general’s offices on a daily basis.

He also said the Armenian Prosecutor General’s office attaches great importance to the preventive and explanatory work in this sphere, the effectiveness of prosecutorial control in that sphere greatly depending on the presence of a legal base.

The session participants discussed and analyzed the working practice of introducing informational systems into prosecutor general’s offices, practice of struggle against the crime, corruption, as well as illegal circulation of drugs and psychoactive drugs and their precursors, etc.

As a result of the discussions, the leaders of the CIS member-states' prosecutor general's offices signed a number of decisions included in the agenda, which define the priority issues of international cooperation for the near future, as well as exhange of experience and its practical application in the main dimensions of prosecutorial control.
