YEREVAN. – Age composition of Armenia's population may undergo significant changes in the coming decades, demographer Ruben Yeganyan said.

According to the 2015 Revision of World Population Prospects published by UN, the average rate will grow from 1.55 to 1.79 children per family, which is still lower indicator than the necessary figure of 2.1 per family.

“The age composition will change. The number of people aged 80 or over will grow. They will not be able to take care about themselves. Thus, working people will have to take care about the elderly and children,” Yeganyan said.

According to the report, the average age of population in Armenia will grow from 34.6 to 50.5 by 2100, while average life expectancy from 75.4 to 85.8. The percent of people aged over 80 will also grow from 2.9 to 14.9 percent, and number of people aged 60-80 will rise from 16.3 to 38.2 percent.
