Arev Ghambaryan, painter from Armenia’s Vanadzor city, resides with her 3 children and mother in a hostel for deaf and dumb in the city’s Dimats district.

As reported by Mother Mane NGO after Arshak Dabaghyan, husband of Arev Ghambaryan, 39, left the family when their children were small. Currently, Arev herself earns for her family; she has no house and her children have health problems.

“Her elder son, Smbat, 15, has health problems, while her daughter Syuzi, 9, was born with Pierre Robin syndrome. The child has smaller-than-normal lower jaw and hearing problems.  Besides, her height is underdeveloped, corresponding to that of 4-5-year-olds. She was operated on in Yerevan’s Arabkir Medical Center but with defects. Now two new operations are awaiting Syuzi in connection with her teeth and uvula, since due to the lack of the latter, the child cannot fully pronounce the sounds and swallow food.

The Ghambaryans have been deprived of energy since October 2014, being unable to pay for it. However, darkness and hunger didn’t prevent Arev from bringing up children with spiritual values. Her small dark hostel room was shining with tidiness and there were books everywhere. Arev bought them for her children. Besides school, her three children also attend different clubs. Smbat already has a diploma from the Dramatic Theatre, Syuzi attends both inclusive school and dhol classes, and Sona demonstrates success in sports,” the NGO announcement reads.
