Russian businessman German Sterligov, who was detained in Moscow’s Domodedovo Airport upon Azerbaijan’s claim, has been released after talking to the law enforcement authorities.

Sterligov told LifeNews about the circumstances and reasons of his detention.

“The reason was my textbook “From Grozny to Putin,” posted on my website: this is the key to all my problems this year,” Sterligov said, meaning that the text contains statements about the history of Nagorno-Karabakh, which Azerbaijan found suspicious.

The businessman said he was talking to the representatives of intelligence agencies and law enforcement authorities during three hours.

“The police, transportation prosecutors’ office and the Federal Security Service concretely fulfilled their functions. Now I’m released as a citizen of the Russian Federation. I’m pleasantly surprise by the flawless work of the Russian intelligence agencies. Now Russia should use the prerogative of national law over the international one and avoid giving the prerogative concerning [Russian] citizen to the laws of Azerbaijan or Lyon,” the businessman said.

According to LifeNews, the border guards detained German Sterligov in Domodedovo Airport upon the initiative of Azerbaijani police. There the Russian millionaire was wanted under two article of the Criminal Code: “For open calls directed against the state” and “Illegal crossing of state border.”

The businessman’s attorney Arthur Hayrapetov told LifeNews he is filing a case with the European Court of Human Rights against Azerbaijan. Although Interpol stopped searching for Sterligov, criminal case against him in Azerbaijan is still underway, the attorney said. However, the Azerbaijani authorities have banned Sterligov’s entrance to the territory of their country, depriving him of the opportunity to defend himself.
