YEREVAN. – The Prime Minister of Armenia, Hovik Abrahamyan, did not rule out the possibility of being the PM also after the proposed constitutional reform.

Abrahamyan noted about the aforesaid while speaking to reporters on Tuesday.

“The people must decide,” said the Premier. “[But] if I have a parliamentary majority, why not?

“The office is not important for me; it’s important that we solve the problems facing the country.”

The PM added, however, that he expects to hold solely high positions after the [proposed constitutional amendments.

Hovik Abrahamyan stated that he has no concerns regarding the new draft Constitution.

“We have discussed [it]; there are numerous proposals which we will discuss with the relevant committee of the National Assembly [(NA)],” said the Premier. “We will try to find the best option.”

He also noted that they are attempting to create a broad political consolidation on this matter.

The new draft Constitution of Armenia has been forwarded to the NA. The respective parliamentary debates are expected to get underway during its first four-day fall session. And as per the NA speaker, the constitutional referendum should be conducted in late fall.

Pursuant to the new draft Constitution, Armenia will make a transition from a presidential to a parliamentary system of governance.
