YEREVAN. – Prime Minister of Armenia Hovik Abrahamyan, during his visit to China from September 23 to 25, will offer recommendations and solutions for the construction of the Iran-Armenia railway.

Abrahamyan stated about the above-said while speaking to reporters on Tuesday.

“The preliminary agreement regarding the railway was [reached] at the level of minister, [and] deputy minister,” said the PM. “There will be a working visit; we will discus it with the prime minister of China.”

The Premier added that the said railway project has great importance for Armenia’s economy.

Hovik Abrahamyan will meet with his Chinese counterpart within the framework of the economic forum to be convened in China.

The Iran-Armenia railway is planned to be built in six years, and the project cost is estimated at US$3.5 billion. Iran has informed Armenian authorities that it is prepared to construct the Julfa (Iran)-Meghri (Armenia) Iranian portion of the railway with its own funds, when Armenia finds the funds for the construction of its sector. Hence, chairman of the Board of the China Civil Engineering Construction Corporation (CCECC), Wu Wanliang, had reaffirmed their wish to participate in building the southern railway of Armenia.
