YEREVAN. - 129,000 kg of grapes has been procured in Armenia as of September 29, Samvel Galstyan, Armenia’s Deputy Minister of Agriculture told Armenian News – NEWS.am

“62,800 tones were procured in [Armenia’s] Ararat province, that number constituting 29,700 tones in Armavir province. The procurement is currently underway. 16 organizations in Ararat are procuring 500-40,000 tones of grapes. 4000-4500 tones of grapes are procured daily. The work will continue in the same speed during the coming 5 days, and the grapes will be procured till the last kilogram,” he said, adding that they asked the farmers to start harvesting the grape of Sevan variety after September 30.

According to Galstyan, the procurement will last till October 20. Referring to the export, the Deputy Minister said that instead of the last-year 300 AMD, this year the farmers can export grapes to Russia at the price of only 150 AMD per kilogram. Thus, the farmers prefer procuring the harvest in Armenia.

In the course of already several weeks, residents of Armenia’s Ararat and Armavir provinces have been periodically complaining of not being able to procure the grape harvest.
