YEREVAN. – The international community certainly has leverage to have an impact on the tense situation at the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict zone, but of course, the international community does not use this leverage.

Ruling Republican Party of Armenia MP, “European Integration” NGO Chairman, and political scientist Karen Bekaryan stated the aforesaid at a press conference on Thursday.

In his conviction, the reason for this observable fact is that interests are placed above values; but there is nothing new here.

“Of course this position is risky, since there is no awareness that this approach is effective solely in the short run,” stressed Bekaryan. “If suddenly the situation gets out of hand, even those who had interests will not benefit.”

In the MP’s view, the absence of this awareness puts on the international community a burden of responsibility for the shed blood and the killed people.

“This awareness is developing very slowly, but gradually,” added Karen Bekaryan. “But at the expense of the lives of our boys [in the army].”
