YEREVAN. – Regardless of whether there has been a recognition process in a country, today, no one can deny the historical fact which happened to the Armenian people in 1915.

The German Ambassador to Armenia, Bernhard Matthias Kiesler, said the abovementioned at a press conference on Friday.

The diplomat noted that the German Bundestag (Parliament) is an independent body, where very intensive relevant debates have taken place. In the ambassador’s view, however, the most important thing is that all the opportunities were used in order to ensure high awareness on this matter.

“The German government contributes to programs aimed at the creation and strengthening of ties between the Armenian and Turkish peoples,” added Kiesler. “The Turkish society is already informed about what happened to your people.”

To the query on what had actually occurred to the Armenian people and what it should be called, the German diplomat responded: “We all know what happened in 1915. You know that the issue is being discussed in Germany, especially in the Bundestag, and that’s why I refused to say anything more. Your people have seen so much suffering that it’s not important with what word to express this suffering. And that’s why I stressed that the most important was the international reaction.”
