Armenian Cube Technologies company is developing a mobile application, which will recognize plants by their leaves, the founder and director of the start-up Vache Kirakosyan told Armenian News – NEWS.am.

“Similar programs exist in the world, but they do not yet ensure high accuracy. We’re   going to resolve this issue. And there’s a lot of work to do. Firstly, wide database is needed. Secondly, it’s necessary to understand which algorithm is to be used for the plant recognition– the form of the leaf or also its veins and internal structure. Here we have problems for both mathematicians and botanists to solve,” Kirakosyan said.

According to him, the new application will be useful in agriculture, as well as among allotment gardeners who would like to find out what plants grow in their orchards. “A specialist will be able to not only identify, but also diagnose. This is a kind of distance phytopathology,” Kirakosyan said.  

Beta version of the program will be ready in spring, and the commercial version will come out in summer 2016.

The development of the program is carried out by Gyumri Technology Center, with the support of the Enterprise Incubator Foundation (EIF) grant, received at the Matching Grants program for technology start-ups in May 2015.
