YEREVAN. – The United Kingdom’s (UK) new Ambassador to Armenia, Judith Farnworth, on Wednesday presented her credentials to President Serzh Sargsyan.

First, the President congratulated the ambassador on her respective appointment and wished her success. He stressed that there exist all prerequisites for strengthening Armenia-UK ties. Sargsyan also expressed the hope that the new ambassador will do her utmost to further enrich the Armenian-British state agenda.

At the ensuing talk, the interlocutors underscored interparliamentary cooperation. In this connection, President Sargsyan stressed the great contribution by  Baroness Caroline Cox—who is a member of the British House of Lords and has also set a well-established tradition of visits to Nagorno-Karabakh—in the development of Armenian-British relations.

In addition, the Armenian President and the UK ambassador highly praised Armenian-British collaboration in the defense sector.

President Sargsyan and Ambassador Farnworth also highlighted cooperation in economy and trade, and within international organizations.

Judith Farnworth, for her part, emphasized that Great Britain closely follows the activities by OSCE Minsk Group, and wishes to assist in the respective Karabakh peace talks.

The President, in turn, thanked for the UK’s unbiased position on the settlement of the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict, and on several other vital matters for Armenia.

The British diplomat noted that her country stands ready to assume a leading role in the formation of a new legal framework that regulates Armenia-European Union cooperation.
