YEREVAN. – Russian missile strikes on the positions of the Islamic State from the Caspian Sea is a demonstration of a new, obviously a very decent weapon, political analyst Alexander Iskandaryan believes.

By targeting ISIS positions Russia also showed that it is leaving the post-Soviet area and can play a role beyond the region.

“In fact by his actions Mr. Putin declared Russia is not merely a regional power,” Iskandaryan said.

The expert is confident that it is very difficult to win in the Syrian war. Russia’s moves are targeted at diverting attention from Ukraine and shifting Russia’s center of activity from western Ukraine.

As regards Armenia, Iskandaryan said the country can take advantage of the situation.
