It is vital to convince the conflicting parties in the Karabakh conflict that only a peaceful solution is the working solution.

Former Italian Foreign Minister Franco Frattini, who is currently President of Italian Society for International Organizations, told the aforesaid to dailykarabakh, reported Haqqin.az news agency of Azerbaijan.

As per the ex-FM, it is unrealistic to advance the peace progress in Nagorno-Karabakh without the support of the regional powers acting in this context.

“I think to the key players in this region like Turkey, United States, European Union, and Russia,” said Frattini. “It’s only with their help and with a stronger action by the international community that we can avoid that the conflict might turn the Caucasus region into a center of a hot conflict zone again.”

According to Frattini, Nagorno-Karabakh needs to be prioritized in Brussels’ measures.

“Many years have passed since a cease-fire agreement was signed, but it has brought no real peace or stability and the two countries are still officially at war over the region,” he added.

According to the Italian diplomat, we cannot imagine to solve the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict without dialogue and an appeasement strategy.

“It’s vital to convince both societies directly involved in the dispute that only peaceful solution is the working solution,” he said. “Otherwise, even in the best case scenario, international efforts to produce a lasting solution to the conflict will be futile.”
