The Surb Gevorg (St. George) Armenian Church of Tbilisi is an eloquent testimony of the Armenians’ centuries-old presence in the capital city of Georgia.

This place of Christian worship has gone through many trials, and on Saturday, its doors will reopen for the faithful.

The long-awaited reconsecration of this diocesan-seat church of the Georgian Diocese of the Armenian Apostolic Church will be held on this day.

The renovation project of this 13th-century church had begun in 2012, and both Armenian and Georgian specialists took part in this project.

The Surb Gevorg Church was renovated exclusively by charitable means, and the total cost of this project amounted to US$ 3.5 million.

Presidents Serzh Sargsyan and Giorgi Margvelashvili of Armenian and Georgia, Catholicos of All Armenians Karekin II, and numerous guests and faithful will attend Saturday’s reconsecration ceremony of this church.
