North and South Korea agreed on Friday to hold talks on November 26, setting the stage for the first government-level meeting focused on easing tension.

The North’s Committee for the Peaceful Reunification of Korea proposed to hold contact for government talks, at a truce village on their militarized border, Reuters news agency reported citing the North’s official news agency.

The South’s Unification Ministry said it had accepted the proposal.

Pyongyang and Seoul have pledged to improve ties following an armed standoff in August, reported Lenta.ru, a Moscow-based online newspaper.

North and South Korea are technically still at war since the 1950-53 Korean war, because the conflict ended in an armistice, not a peace treaty.
