YEREVAN. – About 340 hotels operate in Armenia at present, and twenty of them were built in the past three years.

Prime Minister Hovik Abrahamyan noted the above-said at Friday’s official launch of the “My Armenia” project, which is designed to spur cultural tourism in the country.

The PM noted that this projects is a result of successful cooperation between the Government of Armenia, the United States Agency for International Development (USAID), and the  Smithsonian Institution—which is well know in the domain of cultural preservation—, and that the Armenian government stands ready to further develop this collaboration.

“Tourism is one of the most dynamically developing branches in the Republic of Armenia,” Abrahamyan said. “At the same time, hotel construction has boosted considerably in Armenia.”

He added that the Armenian government is making consistent efforts to also ensure easy air transportation access to the country.

In addition, Hovik Abrahamyan underscored the need to make maximum efforts to increase the tourism’s contribution to Armenia.

“I would like to especially note the role of Armenia’s cultural heritage, which (…) is an important boost to the sustainable development of the tourism sector, [which] is declared a priority in Armenia,” the PM added.
