Mauricio Macri, who won the November 22 presidential election in Argentina, has long been an advocate for Armenian Genocide recognition in Argentina and internationally, Asbarez reported citing Agencia Prensa Armenia.

During his tenure as Chief of Government of the city of Buenos Aires, Mauricio Macri rejected the construction of a bust of Mustafa Kemal Atatürk, founder of the Republic of Turkey. At the time, Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdoğan called off a visit to the country citing Macri’s decision.

In 2012, Macri was in Yerevan, the capital city of Armenia, where he visited the Armenian Genocide Museum.

And in April 2015, during the centenary of the Armenian Genocide, Mauricio Macri published on Facebook a post titled, “100 years of the Armenian Genocide: I do not forget you.”
