YEREVAN. - Deputy Speaker of the Armenian Parliament Hermine Naghdalyan assures that the constitutional referendum to be held on December 6 will be as exemplary, transparent and fair as possible.

After the Supreme Body session of the ruling Republican Party of Armenia (RPA) today, Naghdalyan stressed that they will do their best to hold a referendum which will be in line with the European standards.

“The Republican Party is getting ready for the referendum; our supporters and party representatives are running campaigns in provinces and in the capital. I’m sure the referendum will be as exemplary, transparent and fair as possible. We will definitely have legitimate results and exemplary election,” she said.

Responding to the journalists’ question on whether all Armenian citizens who will take part in the referendum on December 6 are fully informed about the constitutional changes, Naghdalyan said: “Two circumstances are important: the wish and opportunity. I can’t say whether all our citizens have the wish and opportunity to get familiar with and understand the draft.”

The referendum on Armenia’s draft constitutional amendments is slated for December 6. Under the new draft Constitution, the country will make a transition from a semi-presidential to a parliamentary system of governance.
