YEREVAN. - Yeghvard irrigation reservoir will relieve the load on Armenia’s Lake Sevan. Aram Harutyunyan, Chairman of Armenia’s State Committee of Water Economy, (SCWE) told the aforementioned to Armenian News – NEWS.am at the interim presentation on the technical and economic substantiation of the reservoir construction implemented by the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA).

The reservoir volume must constitute 90 million cu m and in summer – which is the peak of irrigation – it must relieve the load on Lake Sevan. In 2015, 170 million cu m was taken from the lake for irrigation needs. “Now imagine how much the load will reduce,” Harutyunyan said.

Apart from this, the reservoir will help shift the piston irrigation to drift irrigation, and thus save 28 million kW for the irrigation of 27 communities in 3 districts.
