Cypriot Armenians spend New Year’s Eve at home, with their families and relatives.

Editor of Cyprus’ Azad Khosk (Free Speech) E-Magazine, Yeran Kouyoumdjian, told the abovementioned to Armenian News-NEWS.am.

“For the most part, dishes from the traditional Armenian, Cypriot, or other international cuisine are put on the [New Year’s] table,” Kouyoumdjian said. “On the night of December 31, Cypriot Armenians welcome the New Year with the family.”

In her words, during the New Year holidays the Armenians of Cyprus decorate their homes with a particular meticulousness and taste.

Nonetheless, the Cypriot Armenian community does not have special New Year traditions because, according to Yeran Kouyoumdjian, there are a lot of mixed marriages among Cypriot Armenians these days.

“The Divine Liturgies are celebrated with great fanfare at us,” she added.

According to the latest data, 3,000 to 3,500 Armenians live in Cyprus, at present, and they are mostly engaged in trade and craft. But there also are numerous Armenian artists, attorneys, physicians, teachers, journalists, and civil servants in Cyprus.
