The Armenian church community of Sweden organized a big feast on Christmas, in virtually all churches of the community.

Chairperson of the Armenian church community of capital city Stockholm, Hratch Maroutian, told the aforementioned to Armenian News-NEWS.am.

“Different associations celebrated the New Year in different ways,” Maroutian said. “It’s natural that we live in Europe and we celebrated Christmas with them on December 25, and we celebrated the New Year in a family atmosphere. January 6 [i.e. the Armenian Christmas] is also a very important day for us Armenians.”

The Swedish Armenian community was formed in the 1970s, and by immigrants primarily from Lebanon, Palestine, Syria, and Iran.

According to latest data, Sweden has about 12 thousand Armenians, whose 4 thousand lives in Stockholm.

Most Swedish Armenians work in plants, and in public and private institutions.
