The deal on the supply of S-300 air-defense systems by Russia to Azerbaijan is in progress, Azerbaijani Foreign Ministry Spokesman Elkhan Polukhov stated in a phone conversation with the daily.

According to him, the talks on the purchase of defense systems have been conducted since 2007.  As to the terms of their deployment, Polukhov could not specify and provide any information.

Asked by a journalist whether the Russian side demanded a deployment of defense systems far from the Armenian-Azerbaijani frontline, Polukhov said the information should be clarified with Azerbaijani Defense Ministry. However, the daily failed to get in a contact with Azerbaijani Ministry.

Armenian Foreign Office Press Secretary Tigran Balayan refused to answer whether official Yerevan is aware of a deal reached between Azerbaijan and Russia.  The Armenian Presidential press service declined to comment on the matter either.
