The Armenian Apostolic Church celebrates Christmas and commemorates the Nativity of Jesus Christ on January 6.

It is the only church in the world to mark this event on January 6.

The Armenian Apostolic Church starts the Christmas celebration on the evening of January 5, and serves a Candlelight Divine Liturgy. Afterward, the faithful in attendance take the candles lit at the churches, and which symbolize the divine light and blessing of the church, to their homes.

Jesus had blessed the water by his baptism. Hence the server of the Christmas Divine Liturgy, on the morning of January 6, pours the chrism in water and blesses it. At the end of the mass, the faithful take some of this water to their homes as a remedy for the ill, since the water blessed on that day is considered to be graceful and to have special qualities.

Later, the Armenian clergy visit and bless the homes of the faithful.

According to the Armenian Apostolic Church calendar, the commemoration of the Nativity of Jesus is preceded by a week of fasting.
