YEREVAN. – Saudi Arabia seeks to prevent a US-Iran rapprochement, Armenian political scientist Hayk Martirosyan said at a press conference on Monday. 

In his words, the other reason for the escalation of tension between Iran and Saudi Arabia is the ambitions of the new branch of the Saudi kingship; that is, the process of passing King Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud’s throne onto his son, Deputy Crown Prince Mohammad bin Salman Al Saud—who is also the Minister of Defense of Saudi Arabia—, as smoothly and surely as possible.

As per Martirosyan, according to Mohammad bin Salman’s calculations, the measure to be taken to this end shall ensure his domestic legitimacy, and enable him to manifest himself as a strong military leader.
