YEREVAN. - Maximum participation of Armenian companies will be ensured in the reparation works of Armenian Nuclear Power Plant (NPP). Armenia’s Energy and Natural Resources Minister Yervand Zakharyan stated the aforementioned in the parliament today.

According to him, the preparation to the scheduled reparation of the Armenian NPP is already carried out and will be completed in May 2017. The capital repairs will be held in two stages which will take 3-4 months in 2017 and 2018. The Russian state corporation “Rosatom” will superintend the work.

In December 2015, the Armenian Ministry of Energy and “Rosatom” held a seminar in Yerevan aiming to familiarize the Armenian companies with the conditions of participation in state procurements and tenders for the NPP. “Of course, the key issue is the safety of the NPP, but the participation of Armenian companies will be ensured as much as possible,” the Minister assured.

In May 2015, Armenian parliament ratified the agreement on financing from Russia ($270 loan and $30 mln grant) for the NPP reparation. The reparation will help extend the period of its operation till the end of 2026. Before this, a new electrical power unit, whose construction is scheduled for not earlier than 2018, will come into operation.
