YEREVAN. – The times of single-party rule have passed in Armenia.

Secretary of the National Assembly (NA) Faction of the opposition Armenian Revolutionary Federation (ARF) Dashnaktsutyun Party, Aghvan Vardanyan, stated the aforesaid at Friday’s NA briefings.

In his words, the recently-passed constitutional amendments have put an end to the making of decisions solely by one party in the country.

“The [political] parties need to coordinate their plans to solve problems,” Vardanyan said. “This is the logic of constitutional amendments.”

A referendum on constitutional amendments was conducted in Armenia on December 6 of the year past. As a result, a total of 63.37 percent of the voters said “yes” to these amendments, whereas 32.36 percent voted “no” in this plebiscite.

Pursuant to the new amendments, the country will make a transition from a semi-presidential to a parliamentary system of governance, and conduct completely proportional parliamentary elections.
