About ten thousands of “Patriotic Europeans Against the Islamisation of the Occident ” (Pegida) supporters staged a rally in Dresden today. Among other things, they demanded resignation of Chancellor Angela Merkel, cancellation of the open-door migrant policy and ban on Islam in the country.

Interestingly enough, the protest was staged on one bank of the river, whereas the second bank was occupied by the opponents of Pegida. The organizers of the alternative protest said 8,000 people took part in the rally. The police watched the bridge so as to prevent the clashes between the two camps, Lifenews reports.

The law enforcement authorities of Dresden took special measures prior to today’s protests: Emergency vehicles, including water cannon, had arrived at the scene of protests. Besides, a chopper hovered above the protestors.
