YEREVAN. – Our task today is to preserve the Armenian writing in the globalized world.

Zohrab Yeganyan, who is the person behind the initiative “[Sunday,] February 7, day of writing in Armenian letters on the Internet,” stated the aforesaid at a press conference on Monday.

He noted that the matter of organizing this process at state level can be resolved at the ethical level.

“I don’t think that not writing in Armenian letters [on the Internet] can be prohibited,” Yeganyan noted. “[But] if we observe the Facebook [online] social network, [we will see that] most Armenian users write in Armenian letters.”

He added that if the Armenian government were to intervene in this matter, a respective legal basis will be needed.

But Information Security expert Samvel Martirosyan, for his part, said this problem is technical in many cases.

“The second problem is the education issue,” Martirosyan added. “People are afraid that they will write illiterately [on the Internet] with the Armenian letters.”
