YEREVAN. – The adversary fired towards the Armenian villages on the Armenia-Azerbaijan border, in the early morning hours on Friday.
But the situation was relatively calmer than along the Karabakh-Azerbaijan Line of Contact, Artsrun Hovhannisyan, the press secretary of the Minister of Defense of Armenia, told Armenian News-NEWS.am.
As reported earlier, a considerable escalation of tension was recorded from Thursday to early Friday morning, along the Line of Contact between the Karabakh-Azerbaijani opposing forces.
During this time the Azerbaijani armed forces fired over 4,500 shots at the Armenian military positions, and by way of rifle weaponry, a mortar, and grenade launchers.
Vanguard units of the Nagorno-Karabakh Republic (NKR) Defense Army, however, took retaliatory measures to suppress the aggressive “activeness” by the adversary, and continued confidently conducting their military watch.
In addition, an NKR civilian sustained a fatal gunshot wound on Thursday at around 4pm, and from a sniper rifle shot fired by Azerbaijan.
The victim, a shepherd by the name of Hakob Hambardzumyan (born in 1962), was a resident of Vazgenashen village in Martuni Region of the NKR.
