YEREVAN. – Deputy Minister of Justice Arman Tatoyan, who was nominated by the ruling Republican Party of Armenia, on Friday was elected candidate for the office of Human Rights Defender of Armenia.

The respective debates and the ensuing voting were held at the National Assembly (NA) Standing Committee on State and Legal Affairs.

Seven committee members voted for Tatoyan, five others supported opposition Heritage NA Faction Head Zaruhi Postanjyan, who was nominated by independent MP Edmon Marukyan, and two committee MPs favored Narek Alumyan, who was nominated by Alliance Party Chairman Tigran Urikhanyan.

Next, Arman Tatoyan’s Ombudsman candidacy will be debated at the NA plenary session.
