Pope Francis has donated a symbolic stone to the Holy Martyrs Armenian Catholic Cathedral of Gyumri, Armenia. 

The stone is taken from the wall of St. Peter’s Basilica in Rome.  

Archpriest of St. Peter’s Basilica, Cardinal Angelo Comastri, sent this stone on behalf of the Pope and presented a letter, informed the press office of the Armenian Catholic Church diocese.

In the letter, Cardinal Comastri informed that this stone had been placed in the holy door of St. Peter’s Basilica in 2000, by Pope John Paul II.

The stone was removed from the basilica in December 2015, on the occasion of the start of the Extraordinary Jubilee of Mercy.

The stone is presented as a sign of close communion with the Pope.

The symbolic stone will be placed in the wall of the Holy Martyrs church of Gyumri.
