An exhibition on occasion of the 400th anniversary of the Armenian book printing in Ukraine kicked off today at Vernadsky National Library of Ukraine, in capital city Kiev.

The exhibition entitled “Armenian Heritage” is devoted to the history and culture of the Armenians of Ukraine. 

The centuries-old history of Ukrainian Armenians is presented within the framework of this event. 

The opening ceremony was attended by the Armenian Ambassador to Ukraine Andranik Manukyan, Deputy Director of the Department of Religion and National Affairs of the Ministry of Culture of Ukraine, Mykhaylo Podyuk, leader of the Ukrainian Diocese of the Armenian Apostolic Church, Bishop Markos Hovhannisyan, Deputy Chairman of the Union of Armenians of Ukraine (UAU), Levon Gulyan, Director General of Vernadsky National Library Vladimir Popik,  Executive director of the UAU, David Mkrtchyan, as well as the representative of the Armenian community of Kiev Norik Gevorgyan and head of the Armenian community of Ukraine’s Khmelnytskyi city, Suren Avagyan, Аspekty.net reports.

After Venice, Constantinople and Rome, the Ukrainian city of Lviv had become the fourth center for Armenian book printing.

The first Armenian book printed in Lviv was David and the Psalms, published on 15 December 1616.
