YEREVAN. - Prime Minister of Armenia Hovik Abrahamyan today received Georgian Foreign Minister Mikheil Janelidze.

Welcoming the guest, the PM expressed satisfaction with the dynamic development of relations between Armenia and Georgia. According to him, the frequent high-level reciprocal visits contribute to the further development of bilateral cooperation.

In Abrahamyan’s words, the countries have a great potential for developing their political and economic cooperation, and thus continuous measures should be taken in that direction.

For his part, Mikheil Janelidze stressed that Georgia attaches importance to the cooperation with its centuries-old friend Armenia, and his visit is a good opportunity to discuss the prospects for political and economic cooperation, as well as joint projects. 

Referring to the membership of the two countries to integration unions, the Armenian PM and Georgian FM stressed that this opens up new opportunities for launching mutually beneficial bilateral and multilateral projects.

Touching on the expansion of economic ties, the PM noted that although in 2015 a growth of commodity turnover was observed between the countries, the work should be continued to achieve greater progress.

For his part, FM Mikheil Janelidze also attached importance to the full application of the existing potential and reconfirmed Georgia’s readiness to implement new joint projects aimed at deepening the economic collaboration between the countries.

In this context, the importance of the active work of the Armenian-Georgian Intergovernmental Commission was underscored.

The sides expressed satisfaction with the transport communication, infrastructure improvement and cooperation in the field of energy, tourism and culture. They also attached importance to the construction of the Armenian-Georgian Friendship Bridge in Bagratashen-Sadakhlo border crossing point.

Apart from this, the interlocutors exchanged ideas on the prospects of trade and economic activity development and new joint projects, as well as insurance of regional security and stability.
