YEREVAN. – The Minesweeper Robots contest for Armenian students causes a great interest toward military industry, and this is an important guarantee for the development of the country.

Hayk Chobanyan, Deputy Director of the Union of Information Technology Enterprises (UITE) of Armenia, told the abovementioned to Armenian News-NEWS.am.

“Military issues always have been and remain a priority for us,” he said. “Already today, 10- to 12 year-old children are given the opportunity to engage in engineering.”

Chobanyan noted that this year eleven teams from Armenia and Nagorno-Karabakh are competing in this contest. 

In the UITE official’s words, the teams were tasked with creating a robot according to the specified requirements, and which can detect mines hidden under up to 3 cm-deep artificial grass, and show their place.

Hayk Chobanyan noted that the participants have fulfilled a real military and tactical task.

The final of the Minesweeper Robots contest will be held on Saturday, and a professional panel of judges will select the best three teams.

The winners will receive a cash awards.
