The countries of the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS) favor a pacific normalization of the situation in Nagorno-Karabakh, and a prevention of the resumption of hostilities in the region.

Sergei Lebedev, Chairman of the CIS Executive Committee, on Tuesday stated the above-said in the Belarusian capital city of Minsk.

“The [present-day] situation in Nagorno-Karabakh, [and] in the relations of Armenia and Azerbaijan, causes concern to all representatives of the Commonwealth countries,” he noted. “Sincere wishes are made [in the CIS] that the tension in Nagorno-Karabakh is shaken off.

“And that two neighboring countries—Armenia and Azerbaijan—find a mutual-concession solution, so that they will not permit the resumption of hostilities in any way, and commence a peaceful dialogue aimed at peaceful settlement of these problems which cause concern to everyone.”

The CIS official also expressed the hope that, “these wishes will be taken into account, and that the collective efforts by the CIS countries and the [Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe (OSCE)] Minsk Group will lead to a positive solution.”

“We sincerely wish that there be peace and prosperity in the South Caucasus,” Sergei Lebedev added.
