The worst reality is that there are more displaced people in the world now than there were after the Second World War, announced an honorary member of the International Crisis Group, Gareth Evans, during discussions at Aurora Dialogues in Yerevan. According to Evans, nowadays there are 48 million internally and 16 externally displaced people in the world. Refugees from the Middle East make a significant part of them.

Speaking about the Syrian crisis, Evans said that the international community has failed to take a responsibility and comply with its obligations.

"It is paralyzed by those events," he stated , and “the Islamic State took advantage of situation.”

The main means of the conflict resolution, in the opinion of Evans , are  political negotiations. "The reality is that a big conflict is rarely resolved by military means. The opinion that it is villains who win by force is wrong - they lose in the long run. However, the resolution requires political endurance and diplomatic resources" he concluded .
