Armenia is a country with “Not Free” media, the report “Freedom of the Press 2016” published by Freedom House shows.

Armenia scored 63 points and is ranked 139 among 199 countries and territories across the world.

Georgia is the regional leader in media freedom with media being assessed as “Partly Free”.

Azerbaijan and Turkey are ranked 189 and 156 respectively.

Azerbaijan declined due to the brutal and so far unsolved murder of a prominent journalist, as well as increased restrictions on foreign journalists surrounding the European Games in June, the report shows.

Overall, the report shows press freedom declined to its lowest point in 12 years in 2015, as political, criminal, and terrorist forces sought to co-opt or silence the media in their broader struggle for power.

Among the countries that suffered the largest declines in 2015 were Bangladesh, Turkey, Burundi, France, Serbia, Yemen, Egypt, Macedonia, and Zimbabwe.
