Estonia will build a wall on the border with Russia in 2018, the republic’s Minister of Interior, Hanno Pevkur, said Friday.

The country’s authorities are going to complete the construction of the fortifications by the 100th anniversary of the Estonian Republic. This year the budget has earmarked 20 mln euro, while next year another 50 mln euro will be allocated for these purposes, Interfax reports.

According to Pevkur, the wall will become the most modern one in Europe. The Estonian government is also going to increase the number of fast response subdivisions.  

The border length between Estonia and Russia is 138 km. The fence will be 90 km long. Rivers and wetlands will become other barriers for the trespassers. The height of the fence will be 2.5 m.
