MOSCOW. - Russian FM Sergey Lavrov talked by phone with the U.S. Secretary of State John Kerry Friday. They discussed the situation in Syria, Ukraine and Nagorno-Karabakh, Russian MFA reports.

According to the information, the sides continued discussing the ways of conflict normalization in Syria through maintaining and enhancing the ceasefire there, which was established by the joint efforts of Russia and U.S. “Lavrov once again underscored the necessity of fully-fledged participation of the Kurds in the talks between the country’s authorities and their opponents, as well as the speedy disassociation of the moderate opposition’s formations from the ISIL and Jabhat al-Nusra terrorist groups.

Other pressing international issues, including the situation in Ukraine and Nagorno-Karabakh, as well as certain issues related to the bilateral relations were discussed,” the Russian MFA statement reads.  

The telephone conversation took place upon the initiative of the American side.
