Turkey continues to suppress free speech.

This time the Assyrian Genocide, which was a part of the attempt of Turkification of the historically multicultural area, has become a target of Ankara.

Italian journalist Simone Zoppellaro wrote about the aforesaid in his article, which was published in Il Giornale daily newspaper of Italy.

“Genocide of the Assyrians was recognized by the parliaments of several countries—Austria, the Netherlands, Armenia, Sweden.

“And the Turkish diplomacy’s last attempt at censorship occurred in Sweden itself.  On April 24, when the Assyrians remember the victims of the genocide in 1915, TV4 television channel [of Sweden] received a letter from the embassy of Turkey asking to ‘review the decision to air the [respective documentary] film.’

“The [said] Swedish television channel, however, did not allow itself to be pressurized. Editor Viveka Hansson said: ‘We will never accept such a request. We will resist any attempt that threatens freedom of speech,’” the article specifically reads.
